I have used this app to do toilet training with several of my students with ASD. The visual actions and words are very helpful. I would love to see a variation for the boys shirt. Thank you!

My autistic son is loving it so far. We are on day 2 and have had 2 successful poo potties! I would LOVE to have the poo scene take a little longer. I pause during that because my son takes a little longer. Washing hands scene should most definitely run the whole recommended time of hand washing. Maybe play a hand washing song or just say “wash, wash, wash” the whole time? I pause during this scene also so my son washes his hands longer. Would also be nice if the hair style was a little more ethic as my son is black and the short curly style is the closest it gets but it is very far from his hair. It is a great app and I would recommend.
Purchased this app 9 years ago for kid 2. Loved it then. Helped create a script for the bathroom when potty training. Fast forward, my third kid is almost 5 and still watches this app daily over and over and over! I would love to see more apps like this for social skills.
My children are long since potty trained and I still recommend this app to parents of little ones. I love how calm it is around potty stuff and how everything is clear and explained.
I really like this app. My daughter is already walking around saying the lines and she’s loving it too. A couple edits I wish would be added: 1) Make it so you can have multiple avatars. I have twins, boy-girl, so every time I want to use the app for one, I’m trying to hurry up and change it from the boy to girl (or vice versa). 2) The opening credit takes way too long. Potty training a toddler means every second counts. I don’t have 4-5 seconds to wait for the app to launch, and then another 6seconds to tweak the avatar. 3) I wish the washing hands scene was a tad longer. ************** Things I like: 1) it says what the child is doing at each step. So great for visual and audio reinforcement. 2) customizable avatar. My daughter loves seeing herself. When I try to show it to her using the boy avatar, she asks where she is and wants me to fix it. So smart. 3) “I did it!” Celebration at the end. My daughter gets a big smile every time it gets to that part. Overall/ great little app. I’d definitely recommend it to others. Just really hope the devs update with some of the user recommendations.
This app is a great animated social story. Our son with autism is in the process of learning how to go in the potty and loves the app. Using a child’s voice as the narrator is a great idea. I think it helps kids tune into what they are hearing. The other great thing about this app. Is the personalization. I hope the developer can add more apps teaching different skills like bed time, brushing teeth and getting a haircut.
This was not helpful, at all. It was creepy seeing the girl actually poop. It was very poorly made.
This is EXACTLY what we needed. We are a neurodiverse family and our child was not “getting” the idea of pooping in the potty. He was/is 100% successful with pee in potty but would NEVER poop in the potty. It just didn’t click. We would train hard for a while but after no success we would take a break, for weeks, then try again. We saw his doctor, a physical therapist, etc all who helped and had good ideas however I really believe it was him seeing over and over again, hearing it over and over, scripting with it over and over, then practicing it over and over while watching the avakid, that made it “click” we have been 90% successful the last week and I am absolutely thrilled. Thank you for making a realistic, step by step, visual and auditory guide for different learners!!! I could just hug you!!!
I was very surprised at how well this app worked for my son. He is speech delayed and potty training seemed impossible. But after just a couple days on the app, not only was he excited about going on the potty, he was saying and understanding phrases he never had before. Like asking himself if the toilet paper is clean when he wipes. I know this app looks silly and simple, but it really does work!
The first time he saw he started laughing and imitating the steps!! Hope you guys develop more Apps related to self feeding, wearing clothes, brushing teeth etc especially for kids on the spectrum. Do you have an app for going standing pee? Thank you.
I ended up just using another app because this one never updated. Other than that, this is a good app.
It’s a relatively simple app, which makes it perfect for using to teach toddlers. I guess some people expected something more complicated and elaborate. If you want to help your kids “get it” and start using the bathroom independently, this is an excellent teaching tool. It’s like social story, but better because the star of the story is his or herself. My neurotypical kid was fully trained within 3 days of playing with this app repeatedly every day. My kid with autism took about 10 days, at 2 y 10 mo. It worked for her because it’s so visual even though she wasn’t conversational yet, and got her independently trained a good 1-2 years before most kids on the spectrum.
It is a great app, my autistic daughters loved it. But it no longer works!
Please update this app. I found it to be helpful for potty training my children.
I love this app but is not working, please fix it. It helped me potty train my two kids. My sister is now potty training her boy and she would love to use it but it is not working.
Best $2 I've ever spent my daughter who is on the spectrum loves to mimic. She was potty trained in 3 days! I would highly recommend this app to everyone!! Best app I've ever used!
I love this app but I only gave it 3 stars. Why?? because after ur child make an accident on themselves. You post to explain to them what to do next. Like tell a grownup so the peepee can be cleaned up. Than next all kids hair isn't the same. My child hair is long & wavie. After washing hands the avatar didn't even pull the paper towel down. It jus showed her touching it. Plus she didn't wipe when she pee. My daughter noticed that not only me. People remember this app we pay for is for our kids. So we want them to learn in a good way from others. Other than that I love this app. Great work
I downloaded the app three days ago. Cannot get it to work. The save button will not highlight after I create my character. Emailed customer support but no response.
Great app! My daughter would recite the script. Highly recommend it!
This app has helped our children with autism be more compliant as they sit on the toilet, and with initiating going to the bathroom. We also love how one of our students has begun to talk with the app. However, the Accident Scene has increased the negative behavior of having an accident in one's pants. As shown in the Accident Scene, the child asks, "Go potty please...," proceeds to pee his/her pants, and then says, "uh oh...accident...". This is not followed by any consequence or further script on what to do! We suggest either 1)removing the scene completely from the app 2)making it more difficult to access this scene 3) expanding the script to show what to do if one has an accident. We at this autism behavioral treatment center hope this review is helpful and that the developers take our suggestion to heart!
Never loaded. Got stuck on "loading..." page. Contacted app for assistance, still no response. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling but didn't work. Never got far enough to see graphics. Too bad I just wasted $1.99 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Update: it works now! Cute, to the point. Glad it's working finally. Daughter laughs each time she watches it.
This app is wonderful for helping children learning how to potty training. I had no problem using this app with an iPhone 4, but now, this app is not compatible with my new iPhone 6 with iOS8. The app will not open and freezes during loading phase. Other than compatibility issues, the app really helps my toddler.
Purchase app and it never loaded. Support never got back to me either.
This is a wonderful and simple app. I really appreciate the simple language and graphics for my clients with autism. Thank you so much! It's worth every penny.
I tried to create a new avatar and it would save or go back to the home screen so I had to delete the app.
My son is three, so the avatar looks a little older than he does, but he still recognizes it as himself. I was worried that it might be explicit, but it shows only as much as necessary (no anatomy) and no more. As mentioned in other reviews, the app doesn't show using toilet paper for a boy after peeing, but we can cover that when we get to it. We just started training, but the interactivity, customization, and simplicity already have made it his favorite potty learning resource (apps, videos, and books). Well worth the price!
My almost 3-year-old daughter loves this app. We have been having difficulties teaching her language in preparation for potty training, and since she started playing with her avakid, she has picked up all of the words she needs for us to get off to a good start. Thank you to the creators of this app. It is genius.
My grandson is turning four next month. He has autism and is essentially non verbal so potty training has been challenging. He has had success with number one, but he has not been doing well with number two. It was almost like he could not make the connection. We have tried stories and other apps. He watched this app probably 10-15 times over two days. He watched the poopoo story intently, repeatedly. His mom called me last night to tell me that he pooped on the potty! He did it again twice today! I cannot say that I am 100% certain that this app made the difference but it is the only thing that has changed in his routine and he was memorized when watching it ! Thank you for filling the gap that we could not! And please make more apps like this!
First off, don't have me pay money with the promise that I will be able to make an avatar that looks like my kid when that is not possible. The kid looks way older than my kid, there's no option for a buzzed haircut like my kid has, my kid does not see himself in the avatar at all. It does look a bit like his 7 year old brother, so we say it's bubby. And the kid doesn't wipe, even though there is a pic of toilet paper right next to him! Gross and not setting a very good example. I guess it does have some perks, I like that it actually shows the pee and poop coming out. Good visual for the kids to see what exactly is happening down there. And it is simple enough for the child to understand.
My 2 years old daughter was watching this app for 2 weeks and she decide go potty. Since that day she is using underwear. I am really happy.
My son is almost 6 years old and has Down syndrome. He knows, and can do, all the parts to going potty but was refusing to do so independently and potty time was becoming increasingly challenging. He is a visual learner and follows each step of the video on the app. We now hand him the iPhone or iPad with the app running when it is potty time and he does each step, independently. Without us commanding, he's much happier and potty time is no longer a struggle. He's even starting to tell us, "potty please!" In just one week we went from fighting and throwing fits during potty time to cooperation and him being so proud of his success. I would love to see an option demonstrating standing up. I would also love to see a tracking chart so we can track progress for school to know what happens at home and vice versa with times. Though I really don't think we'll need to track for much longer!
This is exactly what my 3 y/o needs. He really hasn't taken to any potty training methods or apps, but this one has kept his attention. Simple, no bells and whistles or in-app purchases, just a helpful app. He loved seeing his name on the shirt too!
This app is exactly what my echolalic 6-year old needed. She almost immediately memorized the script and identifies with the avatar that looks like her. She spent hours taking her stuffed animals through the potty process, and while she is not yet potty trained, she follows the process herself multiple times a day. I have a request for a new app for AvaKid that would be so beneficial for our kids. I would love to have AvaKid go through a process for what to do when she is lost with the kind of singsong script this app has. And how fabulous if parents could input name, phone number, and address, and maybe "I am autistic." I know my child would learn this script and scenario quickly whereas she still struggles with the practice question-and-answer script I have. She rarely will respond to even "what is your name," and I know in a crisis situation it will be all the more difficult. Just a suggestion for a new app building off the fantastic AvaKid concept:)
First time reviewing an app ever--my daughter loves this thing. I have no idea why? It's so simple yet she is intrigued. We have probably watched it 20 times already and she keeps begging to watch it again. I think she just likes seeing the little girl go on the potty like she does and it motivates her to go. Simple but extremely useful!! Thank you!!
Potty training my 5 1/2 yr old son with Down syndrome was such a trial. We successfully had him peeing in a potty but pooping was a very big hurdle. Until I downloaded this app. My older kids may have been totally grossed out but I'm the one that changes diapers so I thought it was the coolest thing ever. My son played it over and over again showing everyone the app. And it clicked with him. And now success with pooping on the potty. I couldn't be happier thank you so much for this app
My daughter just turned 2 & she loves it. Great for anyone teaching/learning potty training.
I am the Grandmother of a 2 1/2 year old. I found this app to be the perfect potty training tool for my Grandchild. She loves watching the app. This excellent visual makes the whole process less scary for the child and very helpful for the adult trainer. I especially love that it covers #1 and #2 in a matter-of-fact way. It is tastefully done because of the long shirt the girl is wearing, but it actually shows the child what happens when he/she goes to the potty. The easy steps are clear and simple for a child to memorize. Well done!!! Ella's Grandma
My son is 4 and has autism. I've tried potty training before but he never took to it. I came across this app and was delighted. It's perfect. And my son actually loves to watch it. It's already helped him. Last night we tried the potty, and although he didn't produce the first time around, he still followed all the other steps on the screen. And I just know after watching this enough times, he will be going potty at last. Thank you!
Our 3 1/2 year-old loves it.
My daughter watched this on my iPhone about 50 times until she decided to potty train herself, she would recite the steps from the app as she went! So cute!
Perfect for kids with disabilities! Absolutely love all of this app! Cannot wait to use with my clients
Thank you for adding #2! It has really helped my daughter; she actually repeats the steps as she goes. Not sure if you want to make more but if so, one on teeth brushing would be awesome. Thanks again!!!
A million thanks for being courageous enough to show child pooping!!! My 9 year old daughter with autism is pee trained on the toilet but not poop. She really responds to social stories but it's next to impossible to find any that actually address AND show a child pooping. We've been using and loving this app for some time, and just discovered this awesome update. Can't wait to start using it for pooping. God bless you and keep up the good work!!!
This app needs to teach going poop too I was particularly looking for an app that would teach that. He has ASD and will go pee so this app is worthless for him. I should have read the reviews before buying.
I bought the app because of the customizability. I wanted a character that could look like my daughter. She is potty trained but has had an uptick in accidents. I just bought the app but my daughter has really taken to it. Time will tell if it works. My only issue is that it doesn't have much content. Given the price, I would've expected more stories or games.
Was having trouble with my (almost) 3 year old, but she really enjoyed watching and re-watching the character on the phone. it gave her the encouragement to stay with it. thanks!
Such a great concept but there are clear issues with the app. It has potential but not worth the $.
Total worthless app save your money.
Do not waste your time or money! Useless app!
